NPA's Treatment Directory

Treatments

Welcome to NPA’s Treatment Database — and Congratulations on Reaching This Point in Your Recovery Journey

Seeking new treatment options takes courage, persistence, and hope. Whether you are exploring possibilities independently or alongside a healthcare team, you have taken an important step toward understanding your needs and shaping the path ahead. Exploring treatments on your own is a meaningful act of self-advocacy. It shows that you are taking an active role in your recovery, asking informed questions, and looking beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. NPA is here to support you in that process. Our goal is to help you identify a thoughtful set of evidence-based options that address the underlying causes of your challenges using advanced techniques available today. This guide matches treatments to your symptoms, helps you prioritize your options, and provides research references, estimated costs, and typical timelines so you can make more informed decisions and have productive conversations with your healthcare team. Many therapies based on applied neuroplasticity are designed to do more than manage surface-level symptoms. By stimulating or training specific neural circuits, these approaches aim to address functional changes associated with neurological symptoms and support the brain’s capacity to adapt. Depending on the individual and the treatment, this may contribute to functional improvement, stronger brain health, and continued progress in recovery. Every recovery journey is different. Use this guide as a starting point for learning, reflection, and discussion—not as a substitute for individualized medical advice. As you review your options, consider your goals, medical history, access needs, and the guidance of qualified healthcare professionals.

Step 4: Review Your Options

Review and Prioritize Your Matching Options. The tool generates a personalized list of treatment overviews based on the symptoms you selected. Begin with the options shown at the top, then compare how well each treatment aligns with your needs, goals, access considerations, and questions for your care team. — Prioritized Order: Options that target all or most of your selected symptom categories appear at the top. Therapies addressing multiple symptoms often provide the most comprehensive starting point. — Symptom Matches: Check the Matches Symptom Categories Selected section at the bottom of each treatment card to see exactly which of your symptoms that therapy addresses.

Step 5: Save Your Summary

You can print or download a PDF summary of your matching options list. Having a printed overview handy makes it easier to take notes as you review individual treatments.

Step 6: Full Treatment Details

Click on any treatment overview card to open its full detail page. Here, you will find in-depth information about mechanisms, protocols, and safety considerations. These detail pages can also be printed or downloaded for your records.

Step 7: Partner with Your Care Team

You are the expert on your lived experience, and your healthcare professionals bring clinical knowledge to the conversation. Use the database to organize your questions, clarify your priorities, and participate actively in shared decision-making. The goal is not to choose a treatment alone, but to arrive at appointments better prepared to discuss which options may fit your needs and overall care plan. — Bring your printed summary and details to your next appointment. — Work with your medical team to evaluate which therapies fit your overall care plan. — Need a Specialist? If you do not currently have an active care team, we recommend consulting a physiatrist (physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist) or a functional neurologist to help evaluate these therapies for your specific situation.

NPA recommends following The 7-Step Blueprint Process to help you build a personalized blueprint for recovery and rewiring. As you may recall:

Step 4 is “Assess Your Lifestyle & Environment”. Lifestyle habits focus on nutrition, exercise, sleep, mindset (stress), social connection (stimulation), supplements, and the environment (detox).

This is an imperative step needed to create the right conditions and foundation for healing; see Lifestyle & Environment for more information.

Note: Growing evidence shows that some infectious, parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases (e.g., Lyme disease, Epstein-Barr virus, COVID-19, Herpes Simplex Virus, Systemic Candidiasis, Zika virus, Streptococcal infection) in our environment may lead to neurological conditions.

Step 5 is “Research & Select Therapies,” which helps you explore what options could improve your symptoms. The NPA Treatment Directory helps bridge that gap.
